Jay & The San Mateo Papa John's team thank you for making a birthday surprise for my friend special! Excellent customer service! Will be ordering soon...

There are 5 people working here. There's one person on the phone and he repeatedly asks me to keep waiting. Why can't the other 4 guys give me my pick up pizza that I ordered half an hour ago? Still waiting after 15 mins with this guy on the phone. Really bad service.

Terrible Service. My latest experience was similar to Matt A's review; my pizza was over two hours late. After calling them a third time they told me they attempted delivery and I wasn't there so they would not be delivering my pizza at all. This struck me as odd because I live in a tiny one bedroom apartment with a dog who makes it impossible to miss someone at the door. All in all I ended up with no pizza that night and figured out something else for food. My first experience was equally bad where they delivered my pizza 1.5 hours late and they brought the wrong pizza. I was hungry enough not to care enough to make a fuss (only found out after the delivery driver had left) but with these two cases combine I will be forgoing the three strike rule and never ordering from there again. My recommendation is never order from here, pick just about any place else. If you do order from here, check your food before the driver takes off.

So I had a bad first two experiences with this location as the regularly deliver to my hotel. The Papa Johns owners saw this and gave me a promo code to get a free large pizza. This was a nice incentive so I gave it another shot...andddddd it took them one and a half hours to deliver the pizza. I ordered at 7:30 and they delivered at 9:10. This in itself deserves one star. The pizza was warm but it had obviously been sitting cuz it was well...warm like someone say on it kinda warm. The pizza itself was ok at best. I'd give the pizza two stars as it was better than the first two times by far but still not up to par with even Costco pizza...I promise I'm telling the truth. Anyways...2 stars.

After my last issues I was given a credit for the exact same order. Called to cash that in and was told I'd have to pay a delivery fee still. Pushed back and the manager reluctantly agreed to waive it ( after claiming multiple times the system " wouldn't let him") was told at 4:30 it would be here in 35/45 minutes. It's 6 and still no pizza. This place is a joke.

2 and a half hours and still waiting for my order to be delivered. Never heard of it taking so long. Had a driver get into a car accident and still was delivered quicker than this place. Manager says sorry

    (1)
  • A. K.

the pizza is good but my low stars is for the delivery. They NEVER bring it to my apartment. They always wait in the lobby. What am I tipping you for exactly? Driving it here? Isn't that what the delivery fee is for?

  • Peggy V.

Okay, that's the last time for me ordering from Papa John's. The time before was already below expectations, but this time was just sad. I ordered a medium vegi pizza, well-done, WITH anchovies. What I got was a lukewarm, tough, doughy-crusted, NOT well-done pie withOUT anchovies, and I'm sorry, Papa, but we are done-done.

Was hosting a pool party, so I knew i had to get some Papa John's. All my friends hadn't had it in awhile, so everyone was highly anticipating it. So, I ordered and went to go pick it up. I scored a free pie because the guy said he messed up on an order - that was pretty sweet, since I didn't even have to ask for the freebie. Friendly service, and prepared right on time. And most importantly, everyone's thought was: "Man, I forgot how good Papa John's was!" Now I know where to get my Bay area pizza fix when I can't have my NY slice!

  • Sean H.

Solid pizza. Just not a mind-blowing one. Love the brownies and giant chocolate chip cookies. They're close by, for those nights of working with international teams, so that's nice too.

Papa john's pizza with all due respect is disgusting. When a coworker bring Papa John pizza to work, that means he doesn't like anyone. It happened at my work. That's when I tasted Papa John's and I knew immediately that this person didn't like anyone at my work.

Thank you to the team at 43rd Papa John's! I placed an 8-pizza order through the 43rd Avenue store, and they delivered in every respect! I placed it last week, made a change over the weekend, and double-checked the order with them the night before the delivery date. Everyone from the GM to the store representative was happy, pleasant, patient, clear, reassuring, and flexible. This event was important to me, so I really appreciated their professionalism and their concern. In addition, the manager added in another pizza which I thought was very kind and thoughtful, not at all what I expected, and am very appreciative for it. I would absolutely order from them again. Thank you so much for all of your help!

First time I ordered from this location they hadn't even started making the pizza when I came to pick it up. When I got home I found out it was missing some of the toppings. The second time I came they almost had the pizza made when I got there, but let me know that they no longer carried the red peppers I ordered online. They asked if I wanted a substitution, but how hard is it to maintain their site? The pizza is pretty good and the garlic sauce is like liquid crack, but I wish they had their act together.

What a wonderful customer service surprise. I ordered pizza and waited - and waited - for it to arrive. Finally called and realized that I had made it a Carry Out. The manager said he could get it delivered but that would take time. So I headed to the pizza place. My pizzas were kept under the heat lamps and were warm enough. But that was not good enough for the manager (Johnny I think) and K (the order taker). They asked me if I had 10 minutes and they will make the pizzas again for me. Wow!!! My bad and they chose to make it again. Great pizza - but more importantly - great service. Well done both of you!

  • Vincent W.

I ordered a steak pizza and a pepperoni. Pizza is decent and they have it ready fast. Got it for carry out and ordered online. Look for coupons online, they have a ton. I only got it because I got a free pizza from the super bowl promo. I ordered 2 since we had a few more people. Two larges were ready in under 15 mins and they got tons of guys working there making pizza. It's just a pick up spot so no seating if that is what you were looking for. Decent pizza for a cheap price. Would probably order again but CS doesn't seem like their top priority. I saw them put someone on hold to service me which is good, but with 8 guys working there, they could organize a little better.

  • Cynthia B.

I like to order Online, find the specials there, then pick it up. Super friendly staff. Delicious pizza, great price. Can't be beat it for the price. The chicken, bacon pizza is good and so is the pulled pork pizza.

Disappointing! We haven't had Papa Johns since we moved from SD so we were excited to find one when we were around the neighborhood. The pizza was so bland, sauce had no flavor, and just gross! Never again!

    (1)
  • Yvette M.

I'll never have papa johns again. The pizza was soggy, the cheese was chewy, the sauce was bland. Everyone has different taste so here are some pizzas I do like I like Zorbas, Cybelles, and Round Table is okay. I don't like Little Ceasars and Papa Johns was worst than that!! so you get my point.

    (1)
  • Kevin B.

I ordered a pizza from here the other day. I spoke with Corey on the phone and he was very polite and helpful. The pizza was also good, I'll definitely be ordering from here again!

Definitely choose take out over delivery here. First time we ordered from here we went for delivery and was told 30-45mins. Over an hour later we got cold pizza with very little toppings that tasted like feet. Ok, I don't go round tasting feet but it was how I imagined they would taste. I think the cheese may just have been bad. Since then every order we have collected and had absolutely no problems at all. Pizza ready in no more than 30 mins, lot's of toppings, piping hot and not a bad cheesy foot taste to be had. Staff in the shop are nice too and don't don't seem at all fazed with my unusual request of an extra half dozen cups of Garlic dip (addicted!). Order online for some great deals (like large pizza with 5 toppings for $11).

Never had Papa John's before until this weekend and was disappointed by their delivery service. My sister ordered 5 pizzas for my nephew's birthday party for delivery by 11:30am. The pizza was over 30 minutes late. It was not until we called the store around 11:30am where we learned the manager didn't pass on the order and was late and that they were making the pizzas right then and there. Um... really? We already ordered and paid online the previous day. We should have read the other yelp reviews to learn that they were notorious for being late. The delivery guy didn't even apologize when he finally showed up. The pizza was really greasy and looked rushed. I don't think I will ever order from here again.

Had ordered online 3 large pizza`s with cake, ice cream and soda for my kid`s birthday. Did it yesterday, for future delivery, right to park where we gather for BD party. Can give only best recommendations as: - online order process was convenient (wide choice and all customizations of toppings etc - nicely designed); - delivery was just in time and very pleasant; - pizza was hot and YUMMMY! Soda was cool and ice cream just perfect. Keep it up, Papa J!

I tried the supreme at Papa John's last weekend and was surprised at how good it turned! Full disclaimer, I'm a total pizza junkie with a preference for thin crust New York style pizza. Now this wasn't New York style, but it was good, not as good as Pizza My Heart, but a million times better than Little Caesers, Round Table, Pizza Hut, New York Pizza, Domino's, or any other low end pizza. The crust was super thin, like a saltine cracker, with light sauce and extra cheese. Wow, did that make a huge difference! I've had they're regular before and wasn't that impressed but after having the thin crystal supreme did the trick. Plus I liked the fact that you could place a custom order via the web very easily and the pizza was ready in 12 minutes. Another major bonus was that this location was clean, very accessible, and the staff was prompt/friendly.

My boys love Papa John's and this location is very convenient, everyone is very nice, and it is fast. Tonight "K" delivered our pizza and she was awesome - helpful, pleasant, and patient as I navigated boys, forts, and our dog while trying to find my wallet. Thanks!

Tried Papa Johns for the first time last night. I ordered online the day before and my order still showed up 40 minutes late. Spoke to "Manager" Johnny who said if my order had been 50 minutes late, he would have offered me a discount. That being said, once the order arrived, the pizza was sub par, chewy and bland. First and last time ordering from Papa Johns...going back to Round Table.

I personally witnessed one of their drivers run a Stop sign in a fit of road rage while he was chasing and honking after another car in Redwood Shores. Another pedestrian/witness pulled out his phone immediately and notified the store. I hope they fire that driver.

  • Alana M.

I have the biggest love/hate relationship with this location. The pizza always tastes awesome, but i have NEVER got my order correct when I get my pizza delivered, which is 98% of my orders. My order is pretty simple: *Special Deal* pizza with light sauce and double-cut, plus extra garlic butter and extra peppers. Every. time. They can look on my orders and see it's the same thing so I don't know how they screw it up. Usually they forget my extra peppers or garlic butter which i paid for, so I have to call and then they add them to a future order for me, which, is not what i want. Today, it wasn't even fully cut regularly, and there was extra sauce. *sigh* The pizza is damn good, but i think I'll go on my second extended vacation from these guys so they can get it together. The manager (at least last time I was mad enough to call in and complain) is nice enough to credit you/ try and make you happy, but why should I have to call literally every time I place an order to have it corrected? Anyways, other bonuses to this place are that you can earn free pizzas, they have it'sit ice cream (!!!), and the garlic-butter sauce is bomb on your pizza. The stars are mostly based on food quality. If I was rating order correctness at time of delivery/pickup, this location would get 1 1/2 stars.

    (3)
  • Joe L.

Sorry, but I totally have to downgrade my first 5 star review, the manager there Mitch almost kick me out... the pizza looked horrible and he tried to overcharge me... I'l rather go to Little Caesars before going back to Papa Johns(at least the ones managed by this pseudo-manager)...

    (1)
  • Amy D.

I'd never tried Papa John's before, but a friend in NYC used to order often (when we would play WoW), so I thought I'd give it a try when I saw the $13 XL choose your own 7-topping pizza and 3 It's-It ice cream Groupon a few weeks ago. I ordered the pizza with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, artichoke hearts, onion, garlic and mushrooms. The toppings were unevenly distributed, and depending on the piece, you could swear the pizza was, for example, pepperoni and onion, or sausage and 1 artichoke heart; the only topping that was in abundance was garlic which tasted like it was previously frozen. I'm not sure if the Groupon had anything to do with the quality of the pizza, but I probably won't be ordering from here again.

    (2)
  • Nicole M.

John and Brian are great. I'm always really happy with the service. They always deliver the pizza when they say. But the one girl that answers the phone really needs to improve.

    (4)
  • Crystal C.

Just okay, Papa Johns, there needs to be more kick to the sauce. My bf and I ordered a XL pizza for only 13 dollars using our Groupon and we even got 3 free It's it mint ice creams for the deal. It was my first time trying out Papa Johns but to be honest, I was underwhelmed. The pizza slices were falling apart and the sauce tasted like tomato paste from a can. The ingredients were also scattered weird and not evenly distributed on the pizza, which always makes me a sad camper. We all know that people go for the slices with the most toppings and the lone cheese-y looking one gets left behind and contemplated whether or not he should be saved for tomorrow's "lunch."

    (3)
  • April K.

The food here is fine, totally typical Papa John's quality. The delivery drivers are actually very nice and friendly. The real problem with this location is the reliability of delivery. Three times the order has been so late arriving that they've thrown in free ice cream. OK, thanks for the ice cream, but I don't really like it. I just want my pizza when you say you're going to deliver it. I decided to give them one final shot today. Delivery window is 30 - 40 minutes. At 50 minutes I get a call. "When would you like your order delivered?" Ugh. Seriously? The whole point of your store is to make and deliver pizzas. Why are you so bad at delivering them!?

    (2)
  • Danielle L.

Papa, I am so your bitch. I remember Papa Johns from many drunken nights in college. When I found out one opened in San Mateo, I had to go... While it's true, the garlic butter sauce is just as nasty as I remember, the pizza itself is yummers. Somehow, not as yummers as when you are completely drunk coming back from a late night at the Coug and NEED something to eat, but still...it satisfied. Plus, while waiting for my pizza the front counter dude gave me a it's it's ice cream sammy. As if I need to add calories to my calories. But hey, it was free. Then they walk your pizza to your car for you. Talk about a high class joint. Next time I have you Papa, I promise to be either drunk or on my way to drunk, I really do. Then we can relive all the old memories we have together...

    (4)
  • Hey La P.

I had heard great things about Papa Johns and was excited to give it try. Unfortunately, the pizza fell way short of my expectations. The flavors were just okay...kind of bland. But the worst part was that the pizza crust, while thick, was floppy so you had to hold it taco-style to keep the toppings on. They have good deals so I may give it another try to see if it was an off night but am really unimpressed at this point. On another note, nice people working at this location and fast turnaround time for carryout.

    (3)
  • Christine L.

I love this location. They are always super fast and never charge me extra for sauce or extra toppings. The pizza is always good and I've never had a wrong order or issues with the food. My fave is the bbq chicken hawaiian. So delicious. When I can only eat one or two slices at Mountain Mikes or Dominoes, I can always eat half a pie at PJ's.

    (3)
  • Tony B.

Very slow delivery !!! No matter how early you order!!

    (3)
  • Meghan L.

This review is a combination of service, speed and food. I had a very hungry office full of people in need of pizza. I first tried Domino's, but their online coupon lied. I then tried Pizza Hut, but they didn't accept credit cards on their online ordering. So Papa John's it was; and boy was that a good decision! They opened at 11, received my preplaced order at 11:15, and had 14 hot pizzas, plus a few sides, at the office by noon. And in the end, it was cheaper, and better tasting, than any of the others would have been. Now it will always be Papa John's first.

  • Bob R.

1.5 stars Worst gastric-reflux ever from a banana-pepper / roast garlic pie. The regular crust is really only edible when it's cold. When warm it is too flabby. Hate to take them down since they are quick, clean, and polite but the product is really not good enough.

    (1)
  • Derrek O.

This place sucks. Don't be fooled by the ads...I for one was a sucker for them. Food is mediocre at best and overpriced...small portioned pizza. Food arrived lukewarm as well. I might as well order from Dominos and get twice the volume of food. Won't be ordering here again.

Yum, great pizza, at an awesome price! For cheap pizza, the taste is really yummy! I love that they throw in a box of it's it's with most orders. Look on their website for tons of coupons too.

Awesome pizzas. Great service (they have offered to help me carry my order to my car), great prices. Before ordering online, check other websites ( fatwallet.com , etc...) for coupons.

The first time I ordered, I actually made an online order. It was easy and I even got a free pizza with my first order! The pizza, thin crust pepperoni and pineapple, itself was a little light on the sauce, but that's easy to fix. I liked how the cheese on top kept the pineapple from falling off, and not too much juice left over from the pineapple. The cheese bread and garlic dipping sauce was pretty much awesome!

We were quite surprised by this place when we ordered for delivery the other night! I placed the order online, which was very convenient and it arrived within the specified time piping hot! The Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza was quite good and contained a creamy ranch sauce, chicken, bacon, onions and fresh tomatoes. Very tasty! The original crust was was good too, not chewy or tough, however it was sweeter than any other crust I'd had before. I also felt the pizza could have been baked a bit longer as it was a bit soggy in the middle. It came with a side of garlic sauce if you wanted to add a bit of pizazz to your pie! I also used a coupon for a free order of cheesy bread sticks (available with any L or XL pizza order) and there was a ton of them! They were very generous with the cheese and delicious! Along with them was a side of marinara & garlic dipping sauces. Their marinara sauce is quite sweet and a bit too much so for my taste. They offer some great coupon specials which I will plan to use in the future when ordering from them. Love that they offer Its It ice cream as a dessert choice! There is a coupon for free Its It with a pizza purchase-awesome! I was bummed however that this location doesn't offer the Spinach Alfredo pizza which sounds delicious! Overall, good pizza and will definitely order again in the future!

This is surprisingly good pizza! I was at another wonderful kid's birthday party today (please invite my kids to all your parties - we never miss one...) in Belmont at San Mateo Gymnastics, and they ordered in Papa John's Pizza. Hungry as I was, I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but I found that the simple cheese pizza was really quite good: good sauce (I am a sauce guy), good cheese, and good crust. It is not the A-1 pizza of the universe, don't get me wrong, but it definitely tasty for both adults and kids. I will be back.

Papa John's is great for a Friday night when you cant fathom cooking. It's a go-to when we dont know what to eat, but dont feel like going out. The service at this location has always been friendly - they are fast and always on time, and the pizza is always good. Not too greasy, never burned, and always flavorful. Plus, I love that I can order online. I love the thin-crust veggie pizza with pepperoni on top. Mmmmmm. :-)

This is the first time I've been here, and wow pleasantly surprised. Love the sweetness of the pizza dough, a load of toppings, and got two large pizza for the price of one at most pizza joints. I will definitely come back again!!

2 weeks ago I had to buy lunch for clients and I decided to go down the pizza route. So I went to various pizza places and found out that many aren't open really early. I did drive by Papa John's on my way to Round Table (one of my favs) and decided to give them a try. I was able to order 12 pizzas one day and 6 pizzas another day and I had them ready to go by 11 am. It was great. Service was excellent and my clients were pleased. They had a great deal for the quantity I was ordering so I that was a bonus too. I had several slices and the pizza was right on.

Uh, yeah if you carryout, these folks will actually doing the carrying! I felt awkward and declined but the cutie gal insisted (btw, cute shoes!) Ordered it online and the time line for pick up was 22-32 minutes. I erred to go smack dab in the middle and ended up waiting another 5 minutes..boy was that time estimate pretty dead on. The two ladies working there are friendly like heck! One of them I talked for a while and she made the waiting bearable - turns out she's a transplant from South Carolina, my birth state! I'm happy that PJ has a brisk business, I counted roughly 5 drivers - that means that it will stick around. I was dying for It's It, but with the pizza, already pushing the limit. Oh, they got MINT It's it too! I recommend ordering and paying online via credit card, get in and get out! Open daily 11 am - 11 pm.

Most of the time, if my hubby and I get pizza, it is delivered from here. I'll tell you why. The prices are inexpensive and we can order whatever we want online. We've never paid full price because there is always some deal going on if you look online. The downside to ordering online is that you have to spend at least $15 and often the price for one large pizza is less than that if you aren't paying full price. So to order one pizza, we have to call the order in. Sometimes this causes conflict because some of the coupons are online only. Usually we end up adding ice cream onto our order to bump up the price. Although this can be frustrating, the pizza has always been really good no matter what we ordered.

So, the folks had flown back from Asia and I thought I'd buy us pizza for dinner figuring they'd be sick of Chinese food. Yeah right. Since when are Chinese parents ever tired of Chinese food? 8) Anyway, I had this nice flyer and coupon for Papa Johns. Service was reasonably fast. Since I live so close, I just drove and ordered there. About twenty minutes later, I had my two pizzas. Plus it came with 6 (count'em 6) It's It's and a 2 liter bottle of soda for only $30. What a deal. Not to mention all the Papa John refrigerator magnets I stole while they weren't looking. The guy was even going to carry it out to my car for me. Of course, I declined. I always find it odd when folks ask me if I need help out to my car at the supermarket. I must look like a very old and decrepit thirty something. One Works (like a combo) and a sausage and pepperoni later, and I must say it wasn't bad. Even my parents liked it. The only thing is I would've liked is more toppings, but I'll still add this place to my list of cheap places to get lots of food.

I eat here WAY to often, we order pizza from here about twice a week. I'm not really even that big of a fan of pizza in general but this place makes me want more. The owner of this one and the one that just opened in mt view is always really nice and remembers us every time. Not to mention they drive pretty far to deliver it to us without some outrageous fee. For really good pizza thats not just dripping in grease with nasty crunchy crusts and barely any sauce and way to much cheese go here, they also give us tons of free its-its so if you're a fan of those too even better.

The key to a good pizza is fresh ingredients, I think thats obvious. I tried this place the week it opened. we got a medium pizza with olives and mushrooms and half pepperoni. It is clear from the FIRST bite the ingredients aren't fresh. The sauce is canned, the cheese is probably grated in a factory in Fresno and the vegetables probably arrive frozen and precut. This is not a good pizza, this is comparable to Dominos and pizza hut. Its surprising to me that they would attempt to open this place down the street from a well established Round Table. It just seems like bad math to me. You go here because they are open late and you like me you are tricked by the "better ingredients" commercials. Better ingredients? than what? a frozen pizza? barely. There is no place to eat inside, and you cant get alcohol, you cant even play a video game or scan the jukebox while you are waiting for your order! The price is better than Round table thats for sure, but in my mind thats the ONLY thing thats better than Round Table. The other complaint I have is their Delivery boys find it easier to block the u-turn lane making it near impossible to just turn around (if you have been on 43rd you know what I mean) so I have to drive all way the way around the block to get going the right direction! the last time I checked Unlimited toppings meant UNLIMITED TOPPINGS, not five. (read the fine print)

Very good pizza. It tasted fresh and is definitely one of the better pizza places. I also like the fact that they're open for delivery until 11PM 7 days a week. I ordered a medium pizza for my boyfriend and myself and I ate half (4 slices) Now I'm going to run on the treadmill for 10 hours :p

I hate this place! I got a coupon on my work door that said i coud get a large pizza, buffalo wings, and a 2 liter soda for $17.......... So I called to place the order, i gave the guy the promo code and he said it did not exist!!!!!!!!!!!! He told me to go online and try the promo code there so i did and it said the code did not exist! how is it not going to exist when it had it on the flier the left less than a week ago?! So i called back and told the guy about it and he was just like whatever about the situation! Didnt even offer a discount or anything for their FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!!!!!! 1st and last time i ever try to order from them! I knew it was too good to be true! Im going to stick with Round Table Pizza!

I just have to say that the online ordering process is awesome! I love being able to place my order in the early afternoon, requesting my pizza be delivered at 5:30 and actually have it arrive at 5:30! The online order process is easy and it's very easy to customize your order. The pizza always arrives fresh & hot and the drivers are friendly. Definitely a great value for the price!

I'm a few days late in writing this review. Wednesday night, I had the garlic chicken pizza & Itsits to go; it was a special as far as adding on the Itsits for a few bucks more and having them give me the discount electronically as opposed to showing a coupon was priceless. Jonny, the guy who took my order, was very nice and what a personal touch to have your order carried out to your car by the staff. The pizza was wonderful with a not too thick or thin crust, tender chicken, fresh artichokes, tomato's, mushrooms, onions, mushrooms, and a garlic sauce that is not overpowering. Loved the mint Itsits (also available in vanilla and cappuccino.) This is one of my faves as far as the chains are concerned. So, for excellent pizza at reasonable prices with friendly service in a clean friendly atmosphere, Papa John's cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.!

I expected quality pizza and no joke, this tasted like little caesar's. The owner Paul is pretty nice though. However, when I told him I had ordered a thin crust pizza, he told me that if I order it online there's no way for them to know. He didn't take ownership of the issue and blamed the website. I will not order from this location again.

I have been coming to this particular Papa John's off and on for a couple of years now. Really since they opened. To rate their Pizza only: The best cheapest Pizza around by far. It's a good deal and they are open late. Ingredients are good, not too salty. To rate this store: This is the best location around by far. All of the guys are really nice in there. One guy particularly stands out, his name is Johnny. I started coming in here after not going there for about 8 months because I had a change in my situation and this place is on my way home from work now. Only after coming here 1 per week for 2 weeks, Johnny remembered my name and was really friendly when I came in. All the guys are nice, polite and seem very happy to be there and make my pizza. Johnny goes out of his way to make sure the pizza is how I want it (not that I am particular at all), but it shows. You really don't find the caliber of service at any kind of Pizza place, let alone at a Papa Johns at 8:30pm on a Tuesday. I ate at Amici's Pizza, spent 3 times the money and didn't get even 1/4 the service, the pleasantness, etc. Go there and get a pizza, you'll see.

Finally! I don't know how many times I've asked my roommates where the closest papa johns is, but now it's right down the street. Service: They just opened last Saturday and my girlfriend and I went in today and received amazing service. The managers there were so nice that they gave us free Its-It ice cream sandwiches while we were waiting and talked to us about their stores and how they plan on opening a few more towards the city. AND they ended up doubling our order (they have a special grand opening coupon you should check out). Food: We got the Roma Meat Large Thin Crust and it was really good. We usually drive down to San Carlos for Speederia's flat pizza but this is just as good and there are more options for toppings here. One thing to keep in mind is that their online menu isn't as complete as the one in the store (for instance, the Garlic Chicken wasn't online) so you might want to call in or maybe they'll fix it.

Pretty tasty pizza and on-time delivery. Look out for their occasional coupons in the mail. We got a great deal the other night-- got a 3-pack of It's-It ice cream along with our pizza, essentially for free, because we used the coupon. Oh, and if you don't know what "It's-It" is, dang, you've been missing out!!!

My husband and I often order carry out pizza from Papa John's when we're going climbing at Planet Granite on the weekdays. It's great because the pizza is always ready and hot when we arrive (we order online) and there is always a coupon so it's pretty cheap. The pizza tastes pretty good for thin crust and they're fairly generous with the toppings. All in all, a good place to get pizza.

Twice I have ordered pizza for delivery and twice it took over an hour to arrive. The email confirmation always says delivery within 30 - 40 minutes but we've waited over an hour on both occasions.

This is probably my favorite delivery pizza place! The pizza comes fresh, hot, right balance of sauce, topping and cheese. Crust is oh so yummy with it's light, fluffy and bubbly crustiness. Pizza always comes with a couple of peppers and garlic sauce...much better than dried ass parmesean and chili peppers. I only order with the coupons, XL speciality (you need an XL as it's pretty much the size of a L), pack of 3 it's it ice cream sandwiches (oh yea baby who could ask for anything more) and delivery is pretty darn cheap at $21.63 (especially since we're not that close to 43rd). Pizza is delivered pretty quickly, hot and fresh and the it's its are not even close to melting!

This is the best pizza that you will ever put in your mouth. I grew up in the South and we at this pizza just about every Friday. So, it brings back a lot of memories and is helping the Bay Area feel more like home. Order an XL pizza and you get free Ibox of t's It!!!

First of all I'll admit, if I have to eat chain-restaurant pizza, Round Table will always win. I worked in one a million years ago when I was in high school and saw first hand that everything really is freshly made every day, including the crust dough and sauce. It sort of bothered me that this Papa Johns opened on the same block as our neighborhood Round Table. But since we have never tried their pizza, we gave it a try last month. What a let down. Yes, its better than Dominos, but given that their slogan is "Better Ingredients, Better Pizza", it left us wondering, better pizza than who?? Dominos, yes...but no where NEAR Round Table or even, god forbid, Little Caesars! The cheese was very oily, the toppings didn't seem fresh, and the crust was just plain bad. It wasn't cheap, either, only a little less expensive than Round Table. I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 because they were very friendly. But we definitely won't go there again.

This pizza is lousy. Stick to Round Table up the street if you need chain pizza. The thin crust is like cardboard and about as flavorful. The pizza you receive looks nothing like the TV ads. Sorely disappointing. The owner is nice, but that does not a good pizza make. About as bad as Pizza Hut in Foster City.

This review has nothing to do with the pizza, it is all about the customer service. The pizza is good but the guys that work there are so nice. My husband and I got pizza during the world series last night. We ordered online and it told us the wait would be 90mins.... After 90mins passed my husband called they apologized and brought our pizza over about 20mins later with ice cream to apologize even more. Then the manager called me today to let me know again how sorry they were for the delay and they had a free pizza coupon for whenever we wanted to use it. I've had to wait many times when other places get backed up during big games and they went above and beyond to follow up and make the situation right. I'm a big fan of this location.

My friends and I were up in San Mateo for a Halloween party and somebody suggested papa Johns. I personally have never eaten there but was really surprised by not only the pizza but the kid behind the counter I think his name was erik was helpful and entertaining in his dinosour costume while we waited the few minutes to pick the pizza up, he had my gf laughing really hard. It's nice when people enjoy their jobs. We'll be back again for sure.

I had a coupon so I tried it. I never had Papa John's before and I most likely won't ever have it again. You get what you pay for... bad sauce, bad cheese, sparse toppings. Crust was good though. Employees were very nice. Product quality will keep me away.
